The woman โ€” aged in her early 20s โ€” was hit by a car travelling at speed in Brixton, south London.

Police say the driver didn’t stop.

The victim โ€” who hasn’t been named โ€” died after being struck on Brixton Hill early on Satuday morning, Metropolitan Police said.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A hunt is on for the driver’s car, which is believed to be a dark-coloured VW โ€” possibly a Golf โ€” as well as the driver.

Met Police said in a statement: “The driver of the vehicle, which was travelling at speed, did not stop at the scene and enquiries are underway to trace it.

“The vehicle is believed to be a dark coloured VW, possibly a Golf, which may have sustained damage to the bonnet.”
